UK Trip 2019 – Day 1

A great start to the trip, with everyone arriving at the airport an no passports left at home.

Starting out at San Francisco International Airport, it is a long trip to our final destination of Manchester, England, where we will be arriving late Saturday afternoon.

Undaunted by the long travel, everyone was in great spirits, even fitting in their last American fine cuisine of burgers and fries, before experiencing the literal heart stopping traditional British food of battered sausage and chips. A few confused players with figuring out the climate to be expected, some fine minds quoted as ‘isn’t it winter in the U.K. during our summer?’, and ‘what’s the equator?’… this could be a long week!

Thankfully a smooth flight through to London, where the group now wait for their connection to Manchester. Exhausted bodies strewn across airport benches, as we wait for the light to finally confirm departure as we are teased by the delays to our flight and whether we will make it to the Manchester City vs Spurs game. To keep most players busy though, Premier League kick-offs are the perfect distraction as last minute transfers, and then the checking of important Fantasy League points is keeping everyone buzzed for their first EPL weekend in the U.K.

A packed itinerary is ahead for the week, and the group can’t wait to get immersed in the British soccer culture.

Season 2019/20 Season Curriculums

Attached you will find the curriculum’s for the 2019/20 season.

This outlines the sessions for the full season, the coaches also receive the curriculum but with a specific session plan for each session. Through the age groups you will see how the topics change from the U9 player, to the U19 player. It is so important for youth players to get as much free play and technical practice as possible, and to enjoy the game without fear. Without this foundation, a team performance can not be achieved at the older age groups. This reasoning goes deeper in to the systems that make up the individual player, and the four pillars of development.

Youth soccer is an individual sport within a team context. The team is how all the individual components (players), are able to communicate efficiently (ball movement and game insight), to overcome an opposition, sticking to and believing in the process.

If you have any questions about the curriculum or long term development of a player, we are always happy to talk.

Hold the Press!

Fremont YSC and 06BBE Max Allen recently held a press conference during his attendance at the Brighton and Hove Albion Soccer Camp, Brighton, England. Not only demanding a multi-million dollar move to Chelsea, Max used the press conference to distance himself from Tottenham Hotspur rumors and talk about his goals for the upcoming season.

During his brief but successful stint at the Premier league club, one of his highlights was ‘megging’ Lewis Dunk and finishing nicely passed the keeper.

Coaching Symposium, Day 2

Day 2 was a fantastic day, as sessions continued to move between the field and classroom lectures, and included a panel discussion with representation from the DfB, Earthquakes, Inter Milan, and Frans Hoek.

Marcus Sorg, Assistant Mens National Coach, began the day with a lecture at the Maples Center, with a presentation on ‘The German Way’. Like so many leaders in player development, it was again stressed how important the individual is, and leading on from Nicklas Dietrich, who had earlier in the symposium expressed how the youth game is an individuals game, and clearly outlined the differences between senior and youth soccer.

An incredible day ended with the Earthquakes taking on LA Galaxy at Stanford, in what resulted in clinical 3-0 home win for the Quakes.

Timely Report on Adults in Youth Sports

On the day of our final parent meetings, a timely report on the issues of adults involved in youth sports. We agree with everything they say regarding the influence of money and parents pushing too hard to make youth sports become work and not play, but they forgot to add ‘coaches’. Coaches should be educating and working to bring the game back to the kids, not heightening the ‘fear of missing out’.

2019/20 Season Evaluation Results

We do not believe any child should not be able to participate in a sports program they have the desire to play in. Our only restriction is due to the number of players allowed within rostering, but we make sure to provide a program for everyone where players of similar ability can participate.

An evaluation is a snapshot of a players current playing level along their development pathway. When deciding upon playing groups the following are accounted for –

  • Evaluation performance (technical ability, social interaction, psychological development, physical preparedness)
  • History of the player (past experiences in programs, commitment, practice with purpose)
  • Most appropriate grouping to develop the four pillars of soccer development, and to attend to the needs of the player (more competitive environment, participation due to fun social past time, or a combination)
